Trillanes in no position to speak for sovereignty – group
Manila, Philippines – “Senator Antonio Trillanes IV has no right to speak about defending our sovereignty because we believe that he himself has once compromised it that he has even yet to explain to the public,”
This was the statement of the militant fisherfolk group Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamamalakaya ng Pilipinas (PAMALAKAYA-Pilipinas) on Thursday in response to the Magdalo Senator’s riding on the issue of Benham Rise to cover-up his anomalous visits to China during then-Aquino administration that led to the complete possession of Beijing to Scarborough Shoal, a traditional fishing ground of Filipino fishers and is part of the country’s exclusive economic zone. China has been posing its irrational claim on the shoal and has even built artificial island and military outpost. The complete occupation of China over Scarborough Shoal has resulted to the harassment and deprivation of Filipino fisherfolk of their livelihood.
“Senator Trillanes has yet to answer on why his secret and numerous trips to China has led to the latter’s successful takeover of the Scarborough Shoal,” Fernando Hicap, PAMALAKAYA Chairperson said in a statement.
Fisherfolk group lauds Duterte’s move to make fishers return to Scarborough Shoal
Manila, Philippines – The militant fisherfolk group Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamamalakaya ng Pilipinas (Pamalakaya-Pilipinas) hails presumptive President Duterte’s effort to make the Filipino fishers return to fish in Scarborough Shoal.
Presumptive President Rodrigo Duterte made an appeal to the Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Zhao Jianhua to allow Filipino fishermen to continue fishing in the West Philippine Sea.
Pamalakaya said that this is a welcome development for the Filipino fishers who had long been deprived of their traditional fishing grounds due to the dispute. Prior to this, Filipino fishers have been experiencing harassment and intimidation from the Chinese Coast Guards when the former go within the areas China is claiming.
Fisherfolk to Trillanes: Don’t get in the way of the peace process!
Manila, Philippines – “If there is someone who is not in favor to end the decades old-civil war in the country, it’s definitely this military man Senator Antonio Trillanes IV who keeps obstructing the peace process between the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) and Government of the Republic of the Philippines (GRP).”
This was the statement of the militant fisherfolk group Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamamalakaya ng Pilipinas (Pamalakaya-Pilipinas), reacting to Sen. Trillanes’ objection against the resumption of peace talks between the NDFP and GRP.
Trillanes had warned presumptive President Rodrigo Duterte on his openness in dealing with the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) to end the decade-civil war waging in the country and even threatening to mount a military coup if Duterte favored the demands of the CPP.
