Manila, Philippines – The fisherfolk group Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamamalakaya ng Pilipinas (Pamalakaya) on Monday lauded the recent development of the peace negotiations between the Government of the Republic of the Philippines (GRP) and the revolutionary-National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP).

During the second round of 3-day peace talks which began on October 6 in Oslo, Norway, the two parties agreed on the common frameworks and outlines of the last three substantive agendas, namely, the Comprehensive Agreement on Socioeconomic Reforms (CASER), political and constitutional reforms, and the cessation of hostilities/disposition of forces.

For its part, the fisherfolk group expressed its full support on the ongoing peace talks for this will not only end the prolonged civil war in the country but on top of it, will address its roots, which are poverty and injustice. Socio-economic reforms proposed by the NDFP will detach our stunted economy from all foreign dictates that fuels industrial and agrarian backwardness resulting to widespread poverty among our working and rural people.

Meanwhile, the fisherfolk warned President Duterte’s administration to be cautious on the possible sabotage from the United States and its local doormats appointed in the government.

President Duterte should be vigilant on the possible peace derangement from Uncle Sam’s apologists who want to retain the status quo of the neo-colonial rul. There are also these hard line militarists who want to address the root causes of armed conflict in a fascist way,”

“For our part, we are in full support on the administration’s initiatives towards a genuine development to attain the lasting peace that is based on the democratic rights and interests of the Filipino people,” Fernando Hicap, Pamalakaya Chairperson said in a statement. ###

Manila, Philippines – The militant fisherfolk group Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamamalakaya ng Pilipinas (Pamalakaya-Pilipinas) scores the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) for the violent demolition they perpetrated in Brgy. Patungan, Maragondon, Cavite on Monday; saying this might create clog in the peaceful negotiation between the Government of the Republic of the Philippines (GRP) and the communist-led National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP).

The violent demolition happened the day after President Duterte restored its unilateral ceasefire on August 21.

In the wake of President Duterte’s unilateral ceasefire declaration, more than 500 elements of the PNP and Philippine Air Force (PAF) have trooped Brgy. Patungan to escort the demolition team and execute the demolition order issued on July 12,”

They were all fully armed. In response to the residents who collectively resisted the demolition, PNP and PAF have fired their guns in the ground and used tear gas to disperse and intimidate us,” Susan Agner, a resident of Patungan and Spokesperson of Save Patungan Now Movement (SPNM) said.

Manila, Philippines – The militant fisherfolk group Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamamalakaya ng Pilipinas (Pamalakaya-Pilipinas) lauds the release of the nine consultants of the communist-led National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) for formal peace negotiations between the latter and the Government of the Republic of the Philippines (GRP) in Oslo, Norway starting this August 20.

Peace is in the air and we can smell it. The release of these peace consultants were a very good start towards the just and lasting peace in the country that everyone longs for,” Fernando Hicap, Pamalakaya Chairperson said in a statement.

The nine NDFP consultants that were released this week were Maria Concha Araneta, Renante Gamara, Ernesto Lorenzo, Ruben Saluta, Alan Jazmines, Tirso Alcantara, Alfred Mapano and Kennedy Bangibang and Jaime Soledad.

We direly support the peace talks between the GPH and NDFP and will push for its final peaceful conclusion for this won’t only bring the decades-old civil war in the country to its final curtain, but also an end to the enduring poverty suffered by the Filipino people under this tattered ruling system,” Hicap said.

The NDFP has comprehensive and substantive agendas that will genuinely address and resolve the plight of the Filipino people like landlessness, joblessness, poverty and injustice through its Comprehensive Agreement on Socio-Economic Reforms (CASER).

Meanwhile, Pamalakaya still calls on the Duterte administration for the unconditional release of the remaining hundreds of political prisoners that were still behind bars for some absurd trumped-up criminal charges filed by past administrations. Also needs to be released immediately are the NDFP Consultants Benito Tiamzon and Wilma Austria who were allowed to join the peace talks by the Manila Court. ###

peace negotiations is a must – fisherfolk group

Manila, Philippines – The fisherfolk group Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamamalakaya ng Pilipinas (Pamalakaya-Pilipinas) urged the Duterte Administration to pursue the peace negotiations with the communist led-National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) in the name of people’s unity and national interest.

This is at the height of growing tensions with China regarding the disputed waters in the West Philippine Sea, which the former had posed its irrational claim. Although the International Tribunal ruled in favor to the Philippines’ claim on the disputed waters, China has been keen on its position not to comply on the said ruling as it maintains its claim that South China Sea is an indisputable sovereignty under their 9-dash line assumption.

In these trying times, a national unity through peace talks between the GRP and the revolutionary movement is crucial. No amount of diplomatic talks can resolve this long running sea row unless us as a nation will unite and collectively uphold our national sovereignty and territorial integrity,” Salvador France, Pamalakaya vice-chairperson said in a statement.

Manila, Philippines – “If there is someone who is not in favor to end the decades old-civil war in the country, it’s definitely this military man Senator Antonio Trillanes IV who keeps obstructing the peace process between the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) and Government of the Republic of the Philippines (GRP).”

This was the statement of the militant fisherfolk group Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamamalakaya ng Pilipinas (Pamalakaya-Pilipinas), reacting to Sen. Trillanes’ objection against the resumption of peace talks between the NDFP and GRP.

Trillanes had warned presumptive President Rodrigo Duterte on his openness in dealing with the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) to end the decade-civil war waging in the country and even threatening to mount a military coup if Duterte favored the demands of the CPP.
